Polls & Back needs more than cars. A reliable Election Day service depends on drivers, dispatchers, organizers, and material support working from one plan.
Dispatchers
Review requests, make assignments, track ride status, communicate updates, and coordinate return trips through ARGUS Ride Desk.
Organizers & sponsors
Recruit volunteers, connect with local organizations, support training, and help cover fuel, printing, communications, and accessibility costs.

The application on this page begins the driver review and onboarding process. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval, operational access, or an Election Day assignment.
Individual review and approval
Every volunteer driver is reviewed individually before approval. Polls & Back verifies the applicant’s identity, current driver’s license, vehicle registration, personal automobile insurance, and the safety and suitability of the vehicle that will be used.
The vehicle must be covered by the applicant’s current personal automobile policy, including comprehensive and collision coverage. Applicants must also complete onboarding and agree to the program’s safety, privacy, dispatch, and nonpartisan conduct requirements.
Who may participate
Applications are welcome from individual volunteers and from drivers connected to existing community groups, mutual-aid networks, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood projects, faith communities, and other civic efforts.
Organizational affiliation does not replace individual review. Every driver must independently meet the same identity, licensing, registration, insurance, vehicle-safety, privacy, and conduct requirements.
What Polls & Back provides
Polls & Back provides volunteer intake, driver review, rider intake, dispatch, communications, assignment tracking, documentation, and operational support. Approved volunteers provide free community transportation using their own vehicles.
Polls & Back does not sell rides or operate a paid commercial rideshare marketplace. Its role is to vet volunteers, connect approved drivers with people who need transportation, and provide the infrastructure needed to coordinate the service safely and accountably.
What every role shares
Polls & Back is a public civic service, not an election campaign. Every volunteer will be expected to protect a rider’s independence, follow dispatch instructions, communicate clearly, and keep political persuasion out of the ride.

Nonpartisan conduct
No campaigning, candidate advocacy, ballot persuasion, partisan displays, or questions about how a rider plans to vote during active service.

Reliable operations
Accept only assignments you can complete, keep dispatch informed, protect rider contact details, and report delays or safety concerns immediately.

Respectful rider care
Provide transportation without judgment or political conditions. Accessibility and mobility needs are operational information, not a basis for disrespect or exclusion.
Driver requirements
Drivers must maintain lawful driving privileges, current vehicle registration, personal automobile insurance with comprehensive and collision coverage, and a safe, reliable vehicle suitable for the assignments they accept.
License, registration, insurance, identity, and vehicle safety are verified during onboarding. Only approved drivers may receive rider information, operational access, or ride assignments.
Dispatcher and organizer roles
Not everyone needs to drive. Dispatchers will work with the ARGUS operator interface to turn public requests into accountable assignments and status updates. Organizers can help with recruitment, documentation, outreach, training logistics, accessibility planning, and local partnerships.
Material support
Sponsors may help cover direct operating needs such as fuel assistance, printed rider information, public phone or text service, volunteer supplies, and accessibility accommodations. Sponsorship will not purchase influence over riders, service rules, dispatch decisions, or political messaging.
The ballot is personal. The ride can be collective.
